At first Leibowitz was a critic of Maimonides. However, over time he came to admire Maimonides’ effort to unite faith and reason. Like Maimonides, Leibowitz addressed the struggles of those torn between religious tradition and modern secular thought and he became a modern “Guide of the Perplexed” himself, offering a path for religious life grounded in practice amid intellectual challenges.
