September 14, 2025
Hidden beneath Jerusalem lies one of its greatest mysteries: strange cup-shaped depressions carved into the bedrock nearly 6,000 years ago. This film explores the earliest traces of human life in the City of David, the prehistoric community at Motza, and the cultural world of the Chalcolithic period. From enigmatic stone carvings to the first steps that made Jerusalem a spiritual center, the video uncovers how a small settlement became the city that continues to fascinate the world today. The episode was written by archaeologist Yana Tchekhanovets of Ben-Gurion University and narrated by award-winning author and journalist Matti Friedman.
